The exhibition arising from Archive Alive runs from April to June 2009 in the Museum of North Craven Life at The Folly, Settle and is a spectacular, interesting, and exciting insight into local history. Examples and extracts of the exhibition are available on the website, notably the narratives from the displays, and some extracts of the music and the poetry readings. These may be found at:
The archives were bought from a dealer in Newark called Anthony Laywood. The collection was put together over many years by John Collins. He was an antiquarian book dealer in London and spent many holidays in Settle:
"Holidays can affect collecting in a rather more vexatious way. One begins to hanker after books about favourite places. I recently succumbed to an inordinately expensive copy of poems, Tom Twistleton's 'Splinters Struck From Winskill Rock... really I bought it because Winskill is just over our horizon as we wake up on holiday. I must make the booking for next year..." John Collins from the introduction to Laywood's sale catalogue
As we use documents with groups and make images of them, we will add them to this page. However, it is not an integral part of the project to produce a full gallery of every document.
